The mod has been engineered to deliver the massive volume and crushing texture of '90s high-gain distortion without compromising the articulate note definition demanded by modern players.
Redesigned EQ
The brittle, piercing high-end is effectively tamed by re-engineering the stock scooped EQ. The Siberian Fuzz-ky features a modified tone stack that reintroduces crucial midrange content, allowing you to cut through the mix.
Two Decades of Fuzz on a Single Switch
New versatility has been introduced with a Fuzz Selector Toggle Switch, offering two distinct, era-defining fuzz textures.
Position 1: Warm and Compressed Vintage (Vintage Soviet Germanium)
Features authentic Soviet-era Germanium Diodes for a complex, warm harmonic profile and a buttery compression. The voicing is dense and musical, reminiscent of early shoegaze and thick, singing lead lines.
Position 2: Aggressive Modern (Modern Silicon)
Features a Silicon Diode Pair voiced for explosive output and focused, articulate saturation. This setting retains the DS-1's clarity but produces thick walls of sound used by artists like The Smashing Pumpkins. It's perfect for complex chord voicings and massive, rhythm-heavy chorus sections.
Disclaimer: Boss switched over to surface mounted parts in their current models and are diffcult to modify. Sublevel "Siberian Fuzz-ky" modded DS-1 pedals make use of previously loved distortion pedals. I try to source the cleanest pedals possible, but there may be some minor paint chips and scratches. I like to think of this work as giving worn out, tired gear a whole new life. Reuse, recycle and all that
